Gordon is cheerful, optimistic and genuinely excited by the natural world. His green gardening gloves hide ‘green’ fingers and Gordon just loves to get out into his garden each day and start work.

His catchphrase calls for everyone to join in the fun:

Let’s Get Mucky!

Gordon believes in Eco-friendly gardening and is very creative when solving problems. Rather than waste tap water, Gordon creates wild and wonderful rainwater catching devises; and instead of using chemical pesticides, Gordon prefers to reason with the bugs in his garden to stop them nibbling his plants.

Gordon lives with his best friend Andrew the worm, inside the large oak tree at the centre of his garden. The entrance to his house is an upturned wheelbarrow. Gordon is about 43 cm or 17 inches tall, when wearing his pointy Gnome hat!

PERCY loves gardening gadgets. He buys them all from “The Gnome Innovations Catalogue”, and will spend hours reading all the instructions. Percy is very clever.

Percy doesn’t like mess and his garden is very neat and tidy.

JEROME is a bit lazy. He’s always borrowing tools ready to begin work, but he never actually does much. For Jerome prefers sleeping …on his spade, in his hammock,
his deckchair or even his wheelbarrow!

His catchphrase is: “I must get that plank fixed.”

Jerome’s garden is very messy and overgrown.

ROSIE is lively young gnome who lives in the wood and meadow behind Gordon’s house. Rosie is enjoying nature to the full, before having a garden of her own.

Rosie knows lots about herbs and wild flowers, and often collects them in her wicker basket to show Gordon.

The CHIEF GNOME is in charge of all the Gnomes of the world. He’s a funny, larger than life character, who is slightly batty.

A very busy man, with lots of things on his mind, the Chief Gnome often gets confused…. especially after travelling by Gnome Post, when he wobbles unsteadily about saying his catchphrase: “I’m fine! I’m fine!”

GLADIOLI Gnome is the wife of the Chief Gnome
and has a very regal air. She is just as potty as her husband!

IAN Gnome is the Chief Gnome's 10-year old nephew.

Ian attends the Gnome Academy at Kew Gardens, and is occasionally left with Gordon for “work experience”. He’s very enthusiastic, but also accident-prone!

Andrew is a cheeky, chipper little chap.

Andrew is also Gordon’s best friend. He spends all day inside Gordon’s hat, popping out of magical little holes and hatches. When he pops out of the top of Gordon’s hat, the tiny tip of the hat becomes a little hat for Andrew!

At night, Andrew sleeps in a flowerpot, full of fresh soil, by the side of Gordon’s bed.

DAPHNE is a red squirrel with a big fluffy red tail – which comes in very hand for dusting things.

Daphne lives in her own self-contained flat in the tree above Gordon. She’s very organised and has a creative flair for garden matters.

MORRIS is a shy, slow and thoughtful little mole.

Morris lives underground and is very proud of all the tunnels he’s made under Gordon’s garden. He’s great at digging holes.

Morris is often found in Gordon’s workshop and will always help Gordon make or fix things!

Lez and Dez are a couple of greedy slugs who live in Gordon’s vegetable patch.

They are best friends. They love cabbage and lettuce and will do anything to get some to munch on.

Lez is a big gentle giant.

Dez, the smaller of the two, has an answer for everything and is very much the leader in this partnership. He’s a well-read slug who likes the finer things in life – especially cabbage.

Bob lives in Gordon’s fishpond.

Bob is a fish of few words, as it’s hard to say much during a single jump out of the water.

The SPARROW SISTERS are constantly gossiping and chattering to each other! They have a nest at the very top of Gordon’s big oak tree.
