STUDIO INFORMATION

Collingwood O’Hare moved into its own spacious studios in West London in September 1996, following a year of construction and adaptation of an old Salvation Army Hall. Designed by the award-winning architects Harper Mackay, the premises is built to incorporate ISDN, Cat-5 cabling and other digital technology so the company is prepared for the emerging technologies and markets.

COE has to date produced two of its recent television productions exclusively in the UK , animating entirely on computer, in house at their London studio.  Their first computer-based series, the 52 x 5-minute Yoko! Jakamoko! Toto! supported a crew of around 30 designers and animators.  The Secret Show’s 52 x 13-minute episodes saw the production capacity expand to support 50 full time crew, over a two-year period.  During production on both primary series a second production was running through the studio either in active development, as with Gordon the Garden Gnome, and Yoko! Or in the case of The Secret Show, the production of Harry & His Bucket Full of Dinosaurs being made off premises as a co-production, produced in association with another UK studio, Silver Fox.  Production was managed and overseen by COE.

It is usual for COE to have one or two productions in development, alongside the principal show in full production, at any one time.  Two shows have never been produced concurrently in-house, development and production is usually staggered with one in post-production as the next moves out of development and into scripting and pre-production.  This allows each show to get the full attention of the creative team and ensure that every COE series is of top quality both creatively and technically.
